Here is the map of the world and 20 shovels on the top of the screen. Click on the locations of the map to see how much tonnes of sugar beet that region produce per year. The ammount of the sugar beet production will be added in the bottom counter and one shovel will be lost. The task is to collect 220 million tonnes of sugar beet per year, before you run out of shovels.

In 2013, Russia, France, the United States, Germany, and Turkey were the world's five largest sugar beet producers. In 20102011, North America and Europe did not produce enough sugar from sugar beets to meet overall demand for sugar and were all net importers. The US harvested 1,004,600 acres of sugar beets in 2008. In 2009, sugar beets accounted for 20% of the world's sugar production. Modern sugar beets date back to mid-18th century Silesia where the king of Prussia subsidised experiments aimed at processes for sugar extraction. In 1747, Andreas Marggraf isolated sugar from beetroots and found them at concentrations of 1.31.6%.
