The History of Tobacco

Tobacco has long been used in the Americas, with some cultivation sites in Mexico dating back to 1400–1000 BC. Many Native American tribes have traditionally grown and used tobacco for centuries. Following the arrival of Europeans to the Americas, tobacco became an incredibly popular and lucrative trade item. By 1700, tobacco smoking, chewing, and snuffing had established a massive industry in Europe and its colonies, shaping much of modern agricultural history and global trade routes.
