Animals of North America Puzzle: Geography Educational Game

The Animals of North America Puzzle is a free educational map game designed to help students explore the diverse wildlife of the continent. From the freezing Arctic tundras of Canada to the arid deserts of Mexico, this interactive drag-and-drop exercise is perfect for learning where iconic native species live. It serves as an excellent "Minute to win it" tool for biology and geography classes, remote learning, and exciting homework assignments.

Biodiversity in North America

North America spans across multiple climatic zones, supporting a vast array of unique ecosystems. This has allowed for incredible evolutionary diversity. While massive predators like Grizzly bears and Polar bears dominate the northern wilderness, highly adapted reptiles like the venomous Gila monster thrive in the southwestern deserts.

Interestingly, many North American species have successfully adapted to urban and suburban environments. Coyotes have become the top predators in many city outskirts, while omnivores like raccoons, striped skunks, and Virginia opossums (North America's only native marsupial) are commonly found foraging near human settlements at night.

How to play Animals of North America Puzzle

At the start of the game, you will see 17 movable puzzle pieces representing different animals on the left side of the screen. Your task is to drag and drop them into their correct geographical habitats on the map of North America. Be careful! One of the animals is an intruder that does not naturally belong on the North American continent. Figure out which one it is and place the 16 native species correctly to win the game!

Did you know?

• The Only Marsupial: The Virginia Opossum is the only marsupial found naturally in North America. Like kangaroos, they carry their young in a pouch!

• The Venomous Lizard: The Gila monster is one of the very few venomous lizards in the world, native to the southwestern United States and the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora.

• Masters of Expansion: Nine-banded armadillos have been slowly migrating north from Central America and Mexico into the southern United States, though their lack of thick fur prevents them from moving too far into colder climates.
