The Highest Peaks Puzzle: Interactive Geography Game

The Highest Peaks Puzzle is a free online geography game designed to help students and enthusiasts sort the most prominent summits in the world by prominence and height. While the absolute 20 highest peaks are all located in the Himalayas and Karakoram, this interactive game includes representative summits from the world's largest mountain ranges—Andes, Alps, Caucasus, and more—to provide a global perspective. It is an excellent educational tool for digital classrooms, providing a fast way to master the world's vertical geography directly in your browser.

How to play The Highest Peaks Puzzle

At the top of the screen, you will find 20 movable pieces representing different peaks. Each piece displays the summit's name, mountain range, country, and elevation in metres. Drag and drop each piece to its approximate geographic location on the world map. If the position is incorrect, the piece will return to its original tray. Place all 20 summits correctly to win the game!

Class Subject: The World's Most Prominent Mountains

The Earth's surface is constantly shifting due to tectonic plate movements over billions of years. When plates collide, they create the massive mountain ranges we see today. The Himalayas, located on the border of China, Nepal, and India, are home to the world's top 10 highest peaks. This game explores these giants alongside the most prominent peaks from every continent.

This fun geography learning game answers these essential questions:

Did You Know?

• Higher from Base: While Everest is the highest above sea level, Mauna Kea in Hawaii is technically taller from base to peak (over 10,000 m), but much of it is underwater.

• Closest to Space: Because of the Earth's bulge at the equator, the summit of Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is the point on Earth's surface closest to the Sun and outer space.

• Moving Mountains: The Himalayas are still growing! Due to the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates, the range rises by about 5 mm every year.
