Thus, dark matter constitutes 85% of the total mass, while dark energy and dark matter constitute 95% of the total mass–energy content.:

• Dark Energy: Dark energy is a mysterious form of energy that permeates all of space and tends to accelerate the expansion of the universe. Unlike ordinary matter and dark matter, dark energy does not clump together in galaxies or clusters. Its nature is still one of the greatest mysteries in cosmology.
• Dark Matter: Dark matter is a type of matter that does not emit, absorb, or reflect light, making it invisible and detectable only through its gravitational effects. It forms the scaffold for galaxies and galaxy clusters, influencing their formation and structure. It is believed to be composed of unknown subatomic particles.
• Ordinary matter: Ordinary matter, also known as baryonic matter, includes all the visible matter in the universe. This is the matter that makes up stars, planets, and everything we can see and touch. It is composed of atoms, which are made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
• Hydrogen and Helium: Hydrogen and helium are the most abundant elements in the universe. Hydrogen makes up about 75% of the ordinary matter, and helium makes up about 25%. These two elements were formed in the first few minutes after the Big Bang and continue to dominate the universe's composition.
• Stars: Stars are massive celestial bodies composed mostly of hydrogen and helium. Through nuclear fusion, they produce light and heat, making them visible. Stars are the primary sites for the creation of heavier elements through nuclear reactions.
• Neutrinos: Neutrinos are extremely light, neutral subatomic particles that rarely interact with ordinary matter. They are produced in vast quantities in nuclear reactions, such as those in stars, supernovae, and during the Big Bang. Despite their abundance, they contribute only a small fraction to the mass of the universe.
• Heavy Elements: Heavy elements, also known as "metals" in astronomical terms, include all elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. These elements are formed in the cores of stars and in supernovae explosions. Despite making up a tiny fraction of the universe's mass, they are essential for the formation of planets, life, and complex molecules.
