All parts of arithmetic equations have names. In an addition equation, addends are the numbers that are added together to give a sum and it is irrelevant which addend is in which side. In a subtraction equation, the subtrahend is taken away from the minuend to give a difference, so the both components have different names, because it matters where they stand. In a multiplication equation, the numbers are generally called the "factors". The number to be multiplied is the "multiplicand", and the number by which it is multiplied is the "multiplier". A number used to multiply another number is termed as "multiplier" to give a product. In a division equation, a dividend is divided by a divisor to give a quotient.
